The stunning city of San Sebastian, a summer retreat for Spanish aristocracy during the 19th century, is nowadays one of the centers of Spain’s avant-garde cuisine. It is here where the New Basque Cuisine movement started some thirty years ago, and where some of the most influential Spanish chefs of the moment have their restaurants: Arzak, Andoni Luis Aduriz, Martín Berasategui, Pedro Subijana…

Enjoy a private, hands-on cooking class featuring a selection of recipes from the star chefs of modern Basque cuisine. Very close to Pedro Subijana’s Akelarre restaurant is the venue for your class, a charming private kitchen in a delightful Basque country house. This bucolic and peaceful land is where Natalia, your cooking instructor, established her home. The area offers spectacular views of the Cantabrian Sea as well as the rural landscape of green hills and the small orchards of Monte Igueldo.

Natalia inherited her passion for cooking from her mother, and after years of cooking for friends and relatives, she entered professional training at Le Cordon Blue in Paris, where she was granted Le Grand Diplôme. She has worked in Spain for well-known cooking schools in Madrid, Bilbao, and Valencia, and in France, she is a regular instructor at the elegant cooking school of the Montesquieu family in Armagnac. She has compiled a recipe book with the culinary secrets of the Clarisas nuns, and is currently preparing a second publication with recipes of her own.

Her passion for fusion and new techniques led her to become very familiar with today’s influential Basque chefs, and for the last twenty years, Natalia has been devoted to her vocation of transmitting her culinary knowledge in a simple, pleasant and professional way. For you, she will organize a personal selection of dishes from the star chefs of modern Basque cuisine, to be prepared in the comfort of her own kitchen. The recipes are adapted so they can easily be prepared when you get back home... think of the impression you’ll cause on friends and family!

But best of all, when you’re finished cooking, you can enjoy the preparations in a complete lunch, from starters right through to dessert. Fine Spanish wines will accompany the meal, and you can indulge in your mouth-watering avant-garde menu by the chimney in winter, or the sunny garden if weather is fine…
